Trump's Furniture Shopping Tangent at NC Rally Leads to Fox News Cutting Him Off

The 2024 election is heating up. As voting time draws near, MSNBC’s Morning Joe reports breaking news with the latest reports on battleground states. They also ran footage of a North Carolina campaign speech in which Trump chose this pivotal time to speak about his personal experience buying furniture.

Marist Poll Statistics

According to a Marist Poll, Arizona shows Trump very slightly ahead of Harris with a 1% lead. Trump is at 50% while Harris is at 49%. Georgia shows identical percentages for both candidates. In North Carolina, Trump and Harris are deadlocked each with 49% of the vote.

Considering possible margins of error, the election is tied.

“I almost get the feeling that if Joe Biden had stayed in the race, the election would still be tied. Donald Trump’s numbers aren’t moving,” said former U.S. Representative and show host Joe Scarborough.

Willie Geist weighed in as a special guest confirming Scarborough’s opinion. “Donald Trump has his people locked in,” he stated. However, he also mentioned that Harris may have gained traction in some states as Democrats who were wavering when Joe Biden was on the ticket are now supporting Harris.

He also noted Emerson Polls showed a tight race in Texas with the presidential candidates within 5% of each other. Harris is giving Trump a run for his money, an impressive accomplishment for a Democrat in a typically red state.  Geist also noted a neck-in-neck status in the Ted Cruz vs. Colin Allred Texas Senate race.

Trump Talks Furniture

Geist also discussed a recent Trump campaign appearance in North Carolina. He said the former president spoke at length talking for over an hour, often going off on tangents. The host also mentioned that, at one point, Trump started speaking about his personal experience buying furniture causing even Fox News to cut away.

MSNBC broadcast then showed an excerpt from Trump’s North Carolina speech. He talks about how the state was once known for its high level of furniture craftsmanship, but now its industry is reduced as many people are buying furniture from China.

“After the twin betrayals of NAFTA, which I ended, and China’s entry into the WTO, World Trade, North Carolina lost over 300,000 manufacturing jobs quickly, including 67% of its manufacturing jobs, and that number was going up, until I came along,” Trump mentioned.

This may have been one of the more valid points Trump made. However, much of his speech revolved around inadequate China-made furniture which was so low-quality that people would “fall off” and sue hotels for their injuries.

Trump was cut off by the Fox News team shortly after mentioning job losses in North Carolina. Reporters said they had already broadcasted Trump’s 90-minute economic speech yesterday at another campaign location and were told that this speech covered many similar points.

MSNBC Reflects on the Presidential Election

The footage returns to the MSNBC broadcast showing Joe Scarborough laughing, showing disbelief that Trump is so close to winning the race. “That guy? Mr. Shark? Mr. Hannibal Lecter?” Scarborough says.

The newscaster also brought the conversation back to Geist’s earlier point agreeing that Harris may have caused voters to regain their faith in the Democratic ticket. He mentioned tight races in Texas and Florida and Chuck Schumer’s efforts to take out the Republican Senator in Florida.

“Some of these battleground states are getting tighter and some new ones are in play,” Scarborough added.

“They’re investing in Florida, Texas, maybe places they wouldn’t be investing in a few months ago,” said Geist. “And let’s not forget, Kamala Harris, since she rose to the top of the ticket, has raised gobs of money for the Democratic party and energized the base.”

Geist then took a moment to muse over Donald Trump and his furniture shopping activities. He described him as handpicking pieces in North Carolina for his hotels while running his “terrible casinos”. He also took a moment to laugh at Trump’s mention of poorly-made breaking furniture sarcastically calling it a “relatable problem”.
